Pay Rate: $175,000
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer/Senior Vice President of Finance, the Hospital Controller oversees the general accounting team and manages all aspects of general accounting operations. This includes general ledger closing, financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliation, prepaid assets, patient receivables, inventory, fixed assets, audit schedules, and reporting.

The role provides leadership over multiple accounting functions, including payroll and accounts payable, while establishing and maintaining effective internal controls. The Controller partners with Treasury on cash management and collaborates with financial business partners and analysts to ensure accurate interpretation of data and financial results. The position requires independent judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to monitor and drive improved financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Reporting

Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and highlight significant discrepancies to the CFO.

Supervise monthly financial statement closing and review journal entries for accuracy.

Oversee revenue recognition and capital project tracking in financial statements.

Direct audit preparation and respond to regulatory agency requests.

Partner with academic departments to provide financial reporting for residency and fellowship programs.

Develop and maintain processes for compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
Operations & Team Leadership

Manage and evaluate the performance of accounting personnel, including selection, training, promotions, merit increases, and disciplinary actions.

Direct Accounts Payable and Payroll functions.

Establish workflows and processes to improve efficiency and automation.

Prepare analysis of results, including budget variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Foster collaboration, communication, and teamwork across departmental lines.
Strategic & Continuous Improvement

Assist in the preparation and development of annual budgets, including capital, staffing, and revenue projections.

Partner with Treasury to develop cash projections and reporting mechanisms.

Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, operational workflows, and internal controls.

Respond proactively to changes and develop solutions for process improvement.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

CPA license required.

7–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership in a corporate or hospital setting.
