Position Summary

​

A community-based hospital in NY is seeking a dedicated and patient-centered Nephrologist to join its growing team. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient kidney care within a diverse urban population, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across medicine, surgery, and critical care.
The ideal candidate is committed to clinical excellence, continuity of care, and advancing quality outcomes for patients with acute and chronic renal disease.

Key Responsibilities


Clinical Care
 

  • Provide inpatient nephrology consultations, including management of acute kidney injury, electrolyte disorders, glomerular disease, and hypertensive emergencies.

  • Manage chronic kidney disease (CKD) across all stages, including ESRD care coordination.

  • Oversee dialysis services (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), including rounding on dialysis patients and collaborating with dialysis center staff.

  • Participate in the care of ICU patients requiring renal support, including CRRT oversight (if applicable).

  • Interpret renal imaging, urinalysis, and kidney biopsy results in collaboration with pathology and radiology.

  • Support transitions of care, ensuring appropriate follow-up and patient education.

 

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with hospitalists, intensivists, primary care physicians, and surgical teams to coordinate comprehensive renal care.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and long-term management.

 

Quality, Safety & Compliance

​

  • Adhere to evidence-based guidelines and institutional protocols.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to CKD management, dialysis outcomes, and inpatient renal care.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

 

Teaching & Leadership (if desired)

​

  • Provide education to residents, medical students, and nursing staff.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and program development initiatives.

​

Qualifications
 

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology

  • Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology fellowship

  • Eligible for New York State medical licensure

  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care

  • Experience with inpatient consults and dialysis management preferred
