Position Overview
​
We are seeking a dedicated Inpatient Nocturnist Physician to provide overnight hospital coverage for admitted patients. The Nocturnist plays a critical role in ensuring safe, high-quality care during nighttime hours, managing acute medical issues, admitting new patients, and supporting nursing staff and residents. This position is ideal for physicians who thrive in acute care settings and value teamwork, autonomy, and continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

Provide comprehensive medical management for hospitalized patients during overnight shifts.

Perform admissions from the emergency department and direct transfers from outside facilities.

Respond to acute changes in patient status, including rapid response and code situations.

Deliver evidence-based care with a focus on patient safety, comfort, and outcomes.
Collaboration

Partner with daytime hospitalists, specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary teams to ensure seamless transitions of care.

Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognosis.
Clinical Leadership

Serve as the primary physician resource for overnight nursing staff and residents.

Provide guidance and support in clinical decision-making and escalation of care.

Documentation & Compliance

Complete timely and accurate documentation in the hospital’s electronic health record system.

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and quality initiatives.
Qualifications

MD or DO degree with board certification/eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

Current, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice.

Prior inpatient or hospitalist experience preferred; nocturnist or critical care experience a plus.

Strong clinical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Work Environment

Hospital inpatient units, including medical/surgical floors, telemetry, and intensive care support.

Nighttime schedule (typically 7 p.m. – 7 a.m.), with flexible rotation options.
