About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Manager to lead a 50-bed patient care unit. This position oversees daily operations, ensures high-quality patient outcomes, supports professional nursing standards, and promotes a culture of safety and excellence in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act and Geriatric Standards of Care.

As the Nurse Manager, you will provide leadership and direction for nursing staff, coordinate multidisciplinary care, and foster an environment where patients and families receive safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Planning
-
Provide leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating patient care for a 50-bed unit.

Define goals, objectives, and outcomes for the department.

Participate in budget preparation, monitoring, and staffing plans to ensure cost-effective operations.

Promote a culture consistent with the hospital’s mission, philosophy, and values.
Patient Safety & Quality
-
Oversee and participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure emergency procedures (fire, disaster drills, etc.) are effectively implemented.

Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient environment for patients and staff.

Monitor and evaluate patient care delivery and outcomes for continuous improvement.
Staffing & Performance

Evaluate staffing needs based on patient acuity and census; collaborate with other nursing leaders to adjust as needed.

Recruit, train, and evaluate nursing staff; manage performance reviews, promotions, and corrective actions.

Support staff development through education, mentoring, and in-service training.

Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate updates and foster teamwork.
Patient Care Coordination

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care.

Coordinate multidisciplinary team conferences and ensure collaborative care planning.

Investigate and resolve patient and family concerns promptly and professionally.

Ensure documentation and care delivery meet hospital and regulatory standards.
Communication & Collaboration

Communicate policies, procedures, and updates clearly to all staff.

Serve as a liaison between nursing, physicians, and other departments to ensure smooth unit operations.

Participate in hospital and nursing committees as assigned.

Role model professional behavior and ethical standards consistent with hospital policies.
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Current New York State RN license and registration

3–5 years of progressive nursing leadership or management experience

Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated clinical competence

BCLS certification required

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
