Job Summary
​
The Nurse Manager – PeriOp is a registered nurse with 24-hour accountability for the operations of the perioperative nursing unit. This leadership role ensures excellence in patient care delivery aligned with the goals of the Division of Nursing and the organization’s mission. The Nurse Manager oversees clinical quality, fiscal responsibility, staff management, and collaboration with medical and administrative teams. They serve as a role model and ambassador for the organization, both on and off duty.
Education & Experience

Required Education: BSN or BS (or currently enrolled in a program)

Preferred Education: MS or MSN

Required Experience: Minimum 3 years in nursing management with demonstrated leadership ability
Licensure & Certifications
-
Current RN license in good standing (Vermont)
-
CNOR or CPAN certification, or specialty certification through AORN or ASPAN (as soon as eligible)

BLS, ACLS, PALS
-
Appropriate Clinical Life Safety Certification based on area of supervision

Essential Functions

Unit/Department Operations

Collaborate with Director on budget planning
-
Ensure care environment and equipment meet safety and quality standards

Partner with Environmental Services to maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment

Promote open communication and point-of-service decision-making
-
Engage staff in decisions through regular communication
-
Maintain compliance with CMS, OSHA, HCHAPS, and quality metrics
Human Resources Management

Plan and adjust staffing based on patient needs and skill mix

Support recruitment and retention strategies

Evaluate staff performance and manage coaching and disciplinary actions

Develop and align unit policies with organizational goals

Promote staff development and continuing education
-
Collaborate on hiring and onboarding processes

Foster a culture of teamwork, creativity, and empowerment
Patient Care Delivery

Ensure evidence-based practices and minimum standards are met

Optimize patient flow and remove barriers to care

Monitor patient responses to nursing interventions

Maintain a safe, caring, and educational environment for patients

Align nursing care with medical regimens and patient expectations

Collaborate with families and care teams to support care plans

Keep unit policies current and evidence-based
Education & Staff Development

Support professional growth for licensed and non-licensed staff

Oversee orientation in collaboration with the Education Department

Coordinate student clinical experiences with academic institutions

Partner with education and nursing leadership to ensure staff competency

Lead or participate in Quality Improvement initiatives
