Position Summary

 

The PM&R Physician (Physiatrist) provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and non‑surgical management of patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic, and functional impairments. This role focuses on restoring function, reducing pain, and improving quality of life through evidence‑based rehabilitation strategies and coordinated, multidisciplinary care.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Perform detailed evaluations of patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic, and functional conditions.

  • Develop individualized rehabilitation and treatment plans focused on functional recovery and pain reduction.

  • Provide non‑operative management of acute and chronic conditions, including medication management, injections, and therapeutic interventions.

  • Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, case managers, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive care.

  • Interpret diagnostic studies such as EMG/NCS, imaging, and functional assessments (if applicable to the role).

  • Document all clinical encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and long‑term management strategies.

  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and organizational policies, including HIPAA and patient safety requirements.
     

 

Qualifications

 

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of an accredited PM&R residency program.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

  • Active and unrestricted state medical license (or eligibility).

  • DEA registration with appropriate schedules.

  • Strong diagnostic, communication, and clinical decision‑making skills.

  • Experience in inpatient rehab, outpatient PM&R, or pain management preferred (depending on setting).

 

 

Preferred Skills & Experience

 

  • Experience with EMG/NCS, spasticity management, or interventional procedures (if applicable).

  • Familiarity with rehabilitation programs, functional assessments, and multidisciplinary care models.

  • Commitment to patient‑centered, evidence‑based rehabilitation.

  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative clinical team.

 

 

Work Environment

 

  • May include inpatient rehabilitation units, outpatient PM&R clinics, acute care consults, or interdisciplinary rehab programs.

  • Schedule and call requirements vary by organization.
