Position Overview

​

The Radiology Specialty Assistant is an advanced-practice radiologic technologist who works under the supervision of a radiologist to enhance clinical workflow, support diagnostic and interventional procedures, and improve patient throughput. This role performs higher-level patient care tasks, fluoroscopic procedures, and clinical assessments that extend the radiologist’s capacity while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory and scope-of-practice standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Clinical Support & Patient Care

  • Conduct patient histories, assessments, and pre-procedure evaluations.

  • Perform fluoroscopic procedures under radiologist supervision.

  • Assist with interventional radiology workflows, including patient preparation, procedural support, and post-procedure care.

  • Evaluate imaging for completeness and quality (not interpretation).

  • Serve as a clinical liaison between radiologists, technologists, nursing, and procedural teams.

 

Workflow Optimization & Throughput

  • Support radiologists by managing routine clinical tasks to improve e iciency.

  • Facilitate communication across imaging, ED, inpatient units, and procedural areas.

  • Help streamline patient flow and reduce bottlenecks in high-volume environments.

 

Documentation & Compliance

  • Document patient assessments, procedures, and clinical findings in accordance with regulatory standards.

  • Maintain compliance with ARRT, state scope-of-practice regulations, and institutional policies.

  • Participate in quality assurance, safety initiatives, and performance improvement activities.

 

Professional Collaboration & Education

  • Provide education to technologists, nursing sta , and learners regarding imaging workflows and procedural preparation.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and radiology team meetings.

 

Qualifications

 

Education & Certification​

  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) required.ï‚· Completion of an accredited Radiologist Assistant (RA) or Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) program preferred.

  • RRA or RPA certification strongly preferred.

  • State licensure as required.

 

Experience​

  • 3+ years of radiologic technology experience; interventional or fluoroscopy experience preferred.

  • Prior experience in an advanced radiology support role is highly desirable.

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical assessment and patient-care skills.

  • Proficiency in fluoroscopic procedures and interventional workflow support.

  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced imaging environment.

  • Commitment to patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
